ABOUT CARRIE
I'm Carrie, a yoga teacher based in Bristol.
I was first introduced to yoga in my early twenties and started practicing more consistently for the last decade until it soon became a daily practice. I was also very present in the acro yoga community in Bristol for several years until the covid and then the birth of my daughter made it more difficult to find the time. Yoga has been a constant anchor through the ups and downs of life, and I enjoy spending time navigating life through a yogic lens.
I have been teaching yoga since 2019 and have 475 hours of certified yoga trainings alongside a myriad of other relevant trainings. I teach hatha, vinyasa and power yoga. I have also trained in rocket, kids yoga, partner yoga and teen yoga. While my style of teaching has dramatically changed over the years and my self practice has softened, a strong vinyasa class will always have a place in my heart.
My classes encourage you to tune into your own embodied wisdom and move from a place of confidence, love and openness. A typical class will start with sound, mantra or pranayama (breathing exercises) to focus the mind. Then I encourage moving into the somatic and out of the cerebral to find the wisdom within. Movements tend to build some heat, strength, and a little challenge before moving into a slower, calmer, more inwardly focused part of the practice. I offer a long, nourishing savasana (relaxation) to give your body time to feel grounded and rested.
You are very welcome in my classes if you are a beginner. You do not need to be flexible, as the practice is adapted to your body and your needs.
I take my inspiration from nature, the elements, the seasons, the moon, psychology and the wisdom of non dual tantric yoga philosophy. Teachers who have greatly influenced me include Sarah Harlow, Elena Byers, Megan Avery, Vidya Hasel, Christopher Wallis, Joshua Michael Schrei and Richard C. Schwartz.
Yoga should be for everybody, regardless of physical ability, background or financial situation. You are welcome to contact me prior to attending a class if you are working with any injury or physical difficulty. The studios that I teach in offer discounted community rates for those who are not able to pay full price. Please feel free to contact me to find out more.
